The BMW R 67/2 is a sidecar capable two cylinder touring motorcycle of the Bayerische Motoren Werke with a 590 cubic centimetre boxer engine, introduced in December 1951 as the successor of the R 67 of February 1951. The R 67 and the 500 cubic centimetre R 51/3 were the first major new BMW motorcycle designs after the Second World War, and the R 67/2 was built 4,234 times until 1954. It raised the output of the R 67 by two horsepower to 28 horsepower, or 20.6 kilowatts, and was the fastest German touring motorcycle until the 35 horsepower sports model R 68 appeared. The longitudinal flat twin has overhead valves worked by pushrods in chromed tubes, a central camshaft driven by gears, magneto ignition that works without a battery, two 24 millimetre Bing carburettors, a four speed foot shifted gearbox with an extra hand lever, and a shaft drive to the rear wheel. Duplex front brakes replaced the simple brake of the R 67, first in steel half hubs and from 1954 in wide aluminium hubs. Ready to ride it weighs 192 kilograms. A sidecar only version, the R 67/3, followed in 1955 and 1956 and ended BMW's plunger frame twins.
