BMW R 52

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The BMW R 52 was a 500 cc touring motorcycle from the German maker BMW, and 4377 were built between 1928 and 1929. BMW began producing it in July 1928 together with the largely identical 750 cc R 62, continuing the building-block principle of frame and gearbox shared across engine sizes, with sporting and touring versions made by overhead-valve or side-valve cylinders. The R 52 was the last BMW in its class with side-valve gear and the touring sister of the sporting R 57. It was introduced modestly, because the pressed-steel frame models were shown at the Berlin motor show in November 1928, yet it was still in the sales brochures in 1931. Its predecessor was the R 42, with a larger front brake.
