BMW K 75 RT

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The BMW K 75 RT is a touring motorcycle offered from 1989 to 1996, the most travel-capable variant of the K 75 series, the only BMW series with a longitudinally mounted inline three-cylinder engine. Its original basis is the K 75 C presented in 1985. The series is closely related to the four-cylinder K 100 of 1983, with a changed frame and at first a mechanically operated rear drum brake. The 740 cc engine, the only three-cylinder BMW ever built for motorcycles, is the K 100 engine shortened by one cylinder and has a balancer shaft against vibration; it gives 55 kW (75 PS) at 8,500 rpm, takes 4.6 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and reaches 185 km/h. The main feature of the RT is its large full fairing for wind and weather protection, similar to that of the K 100 RT, and pannier cases were standard on all RT models; it was one of the first motorcycles offered with optional anti-lock brakes. In all 21,264 were built, the most of any K 75 version, and a police version was widely used.
