The Teresa Magbanua class is a class of large patrol vessels built in Japan for the Philippine Coast Guard and officially classed as multi-role response vessels. The design is based on the Japan Coast Guard's Kunigami class, changed to have split funnels so that a centreline hangar for an Airbus H145 helicopter fits, and the ships are named after heroines of the Philippines. A ship is about 97 metres long, has a crew of 67, has two 6,600 kilowatt diesel engines with an optional low-speed electric drive for fuel economy, and carries underwater robots for subsea surveillance. The ships are bought under a project funded by a Japanese official development assistance loan, and Mitsubishi Shipbuilding won the tender against other Japanese yards with a bid of 14.55 billion yen for the first two. The first steel was cut in December 2020 and the lead ship was launched on 26 July 2021. A further five vessels are planned.
