Sikorsky S-92

Lighter-Than-Air Craft and Rotorcraft

The Sikorsky S-92 is an American twin-engine medium-lift helicopter that Sikorsky Aircraft developed from its S-70 for the civil and military markets, reusing the S-70 flight control and rotor systems. Offshore oil and gas exploration after the 1973 oil crisis created the demand for an aircraft with its capability. Sikorsky launched the programme with international partners in 1995 and the S-92 first flew on 23 December 1998. It is built in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, and has military derivatives including the H-92 Superhawk, the Canadian CH-148 Cyclone and the VH-92 presidential transport.
