Sikorsky S-61R

Lighter-Than-Air Craft and Rotorcraft

The Sikorsky S-61R is a twin-engine helicopter used for transport and search and rescue, developed from the S-61 (the SH-3 Sea King) with a rear loading ramp as its major difference. Sikorsky built a prototype as a private venture after losing the HRX competition, and it first flew in 1963. The US Air Force flew it as the CH-3C and CH-3E and as the HH-3E Jolly Green Giant, the US Coast Guard as the HH-3F Pelican, and Agusta built it under licence as the AS-61R. It is recognised for search and rescue and cargo hauling.
