The Kawasaki KH-4 was a light utility helicopter built in Japan in the 1960s as a development of the Bell 47, which Kawasaki had been producing under licence since 1952. Its most visible change was a new, larger and fully enclosed cabin with a bench seat for three passengers behind the pilot, along with a new control system, revised instruments and a bigger fuel tank. It was powered by a single Lycoming air-cooled six-cylinder engine. A total of 211 were built, including four converted from Bell 47Gs, and most went to civil operators, though the Japan Ground and Maritime Self-Defense Forces, the Maritime Safety Agency and the Royal Thai Air Force also flew it.
