The Bell 429 GlobalRanger is a light twin-engine helicopter that Bell Helicopter developed with Korea Aerospace Industries. The emergency medical services industry drove the design, because the Bell 427's small cabin could not take a patient litter and its systems did not support instrument flight rules certification. The prototype first flew on 27 February 2007, the type received certification from Transport Canada on 1 July 2009 and from the FAA a few days later, and EASA certification was announced at Helitech on 24 September 2009. It is certified for single-pilot IFR and Runway Category A operations, has a glass cockpit and seats seven, and the first delivery, to Air Methods and MercyOne, took place at Bell's Mirabel, Quebec facility on 7 July 2009.
