The Bell 214ST is a medium-lift, twin-engine helicopter descended from Bell Helicopter's UH-1 Huey series. Though it shares a type number with the Bell 214, it is larger and quite different in appearance, and before the Bell 525 Relentless it was Bell's largest helicopter. It emerged in the 1970s as an Iranian-financed development meant to be built in Iran, but the Iranian Revolution of 1979 cancelled the sizable order. Bell persisted, the maiden flight took place on 21 July 1979 and type certification followed in 1982, with military variant deliveries also starting in 1982. It carries 16 or 17 passengers inside or an 8,000 pound sling load, uses two General Electric CT7 engines, and Bell built 96 before production ended in 1993.
