Kaman K-MAX

Lighter-Than-Air Craft and Rotorcraft

The Kaman K-MAX is an American helicopter built by Kaman Aerospace, first flown in 1991 and distinguished by its unusual intermeshing twin-rotor design, in which two rotors mounted side by side mesh together without colliding and eliminate the need for a tail rotor. Built as a single-seat aircraft dedicated entirely to external-load lifting work rather than passenger or cargo-hold transport, it was designed for tasks such as logging in terrain unsuited to ground vehicles, construction lifts and firefighting water-bucket work, making it one of the few helicopter designs built purely as a flying crane.
