A German rigid airship that completed the first circumnavigation of the world by an aircraft in August 1929, and went on to fly regular commercial transatlantic passenger and mail service for years, including a scheduled run between Germany and Brazil. It demonstrated that long distance commercial air travel was possible years before fixed wing aircraft could match its range.
