The Bell V-22 Osprey is an American military tiltrotor aircraft developed jointly by Bell and Boeing. It combines the vertical takeoff and landing ability of a helicopter with the speed and range of a fixed wing turboprop by rotating its wingtip engine nacelles between a vertical position for takeoff and landing and a forward position for cruise flight. It entered service with the United States Marine Corps and later the Air Force in the 2000s, mainly for troop transport and special operations.
