Mitsubishi MU-2

General Aviation and Light Aircraft

The Mitsubishi MU-2 is a Japanese high-wing, twin-engine turboprop aircraft with a pressurised cabin, built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and the company's first postwar aircraft design. Work began in 1959 on a light twin turboprop transport for civil and military roles, and the first MU-2 flew on 14 September 1963. Over-wing spoilers replace ailerons for roll control, which allows very large full-span flaps and gives a high cruise speed with a low landing speed. Aircraft were built in Japan and, from 1965, assembled at San Angelo, Texas, and 704 were made before production ended in 1986. It is one of postwar Japan's most successful aircraft, and Japanese ground forces flew it as the LR-1.
