The Taylor J-2 Cub, later also called the Piper J-2 Cub, is an American two-seat light aircraft designed and built by the Taylor Aircraft Company, which became the Piper Aircraft Company. It was the first of a long line of related Piper Cubs and developed from the earlier Taylor Cub, with rounded wing tips, a rounded fin and rudder, an enclosed cabin and wider Goodyear airwheel tyres. Powered by a 37 horsepower Continental A-40-3 piston engine, it appeared in October 1935 and received its type certificate on 14 February 1936. The last of 1,207 J-2s was completed in 1938 as J-3 Cub production began, and over 100 were still on the United States civil register in 2009.
