Grumman Ag Cat

General Aviation and Light Aircraft

The Grumman G-164 Ag Cat is a single-engined biplane agricultural aircraft that Grumman developed in the 1950s as a purpose-built crop duster, proposed by engineers Joe Lippert and Arthur Koch in 1955 under the project name Farmair 1000. The first G-164 made its maiden flight on 27 May 1957 with a Continental W670 engine. Large military orders kept production away from Grumman's Bethpage plant, so Schweizer built the aircraft under contract from 1958, delivering 2,455 through 1981 before buying the design rights. The basic model was certified with several radial engines, and turbine versions use a Pratt and Whitney Canada PT6A turboprop.
