Dornier Do 25

General Aviation and Light Aircraft

The Dornier Do 25 was a short take-off and landing utility aircraft developed in Spain. From 1950, after a tender of the Spanish air ministry, the Oficinas Tecnicas Dornier built it, because aircraft construction was forbidden in Germany after the Second World War and Claude Dornier had gone to Spain with a staff of designers. It was an all-metal shoulder-wing monoplane with a fixed slat over the whole span, double-slotted ailerons and lift flaps, and its outline and size already matched the later Dornier Do 27, of which it is seen as the direct forerunner. Two prototypes and a static test airframe were made by CASA at Seville and Cadiz. The first prototype flew on 25 June 1954 with a 150 horsepower Elizalde Tigre engine, and the second flew on 8 April 1955 with a 225 horsepower Continental O-470-J, which proved the short field performance.
