The Aeronca Champion, commonly called the Champ, is a single engine, high wing light airplane built by the Aeronca Aircraft Corporation, first flown in April 1944 and introduced in November 1945 specifically to compete with the popular Piper Cub. Offering better forward visibility because it could be soloed from the front seat, it became one of the most popular and longest produced light airplane designs in the world, with more than ten thousand built across Aeronca and its later manufacturers.
