Sukhoi Su-29

General Aviation and Light Aircraft

The Sukhoi Su-29 is a Russian two-seat aerobatic aircraft powered by a radial piston engine. It was designed from the single-seat Su-26 and inherited most of that aircraft design and technical features, and extensive use of composite materials, up to 60 percent of the structure, means its empty weight is only about 50 kg more than the Su-26. The Su-29 is used for initial aerobatics education, flight training, competition flying and air shows, and for maintaining the flying skills of military and civil pilots. Its Vedeneyev M14P nine-cylinder radial engine gives about 265 kW, the empty mass is 760 kg, and the published performance includes a maximum speed of 440 km/h and load limits of plus 11 and minus 9 g. A lighter single-seat development, the Su-31, followed it.
