Freight and Logistics Networks

Watco Companies, L.L.C., known as Watco, is an American transportation and logistics company headquartered in Pittsburg, Kansas, founded on July 1, 1983. The company operates 47 short line railroads across North America and Australia, connecting to the major Class I railroads through more than 8,000 miles of track, and it manages more than 70 transload and marine terminals along with railcar repair and maintenance services. Watco's short lines serve as the local and regional links that move freight between shippers and the larger national rail network, a role that makes it one of the largest short line railroad operators in North America. The company employs about 4,800 people and reported $1.6 billion in revenue in 2022. Dan Smith has served as Chief Executive Officer since July 2018, leading a business built around rail transportation, terminal operations and industrial switching services for manufacturers, ports and other freight customers.
