The Sikorsky S-40 is an American four engine flying boat built by Sikorsky in the early 1930s for Pan American Airways. It was the first of Pan Am's American Clipper line of flying boats, used to open long distance passenger routes across the Caribbean and into Latin America. Its size and range over water made it a stepping stone toward the larger Sikorsky and Martin clippers that followed later in the decade.
