The Dornier Do 24 is a German three engine flying boat designed by Dornier in the 1930s. It was developed originally for the Royal Netherlands Naval Air Service for long range maritime patrol over the Dutch East Indies, and it was later built in large numbers for Nazi Germany, where the Luftwaffe used it mainly for air-sea rescue and coastal patrol during the Second World War. Its high parasol wing kept the engines clear of spray, and its boat shaped hull let it land and take off from open water for extended maritime missions.
