Dornier Do 18

The Dornier Do 18 is a German flying boat developed from the earlier Do 16 by Dornier Flugzeugwerke, first flown in March 1935 and powered by an unusual pair of diesel engines mounted in a push pull arrangement. Deutsche Luft Hansa used early examples for transatlantic mail trials, and in March 1938 a Do 18 set a seaplane distance record flying more than eight thousand kilometers from Devon to Brazil, before the type served the Luftwaffe as its only military flying boat in the opening years of the Second World War.
