The Canadair CL-215 is a Canadian built twin engine amphibious flying boat designed specifically as an aerial firefighting water bomber. First flown in the 1960s, it can skim across a lake or reservoir to scoop up a full load of water without landing, then drop it directly on a wildfire. Government air services in Canada, France, Spain, Greece and several other countries have operated the type for water bombing and coastal patrol duties.
