Othmar Hermann Ammann, born in 1879 and died in 1965, was a Swiss-American civil engineer whose bridge designs include the George Washington Bridge, the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge and the Bayonne Bridge. He also directed the planning and construction of the Lincoln Tunnel. This entry records him as a bridge and tunnel engineer, so that the major New York crossings he designed can be linked to the engineer behind them, and so that his career can be followed from Switzerland to the United States.
