The Volkswagen Type 2, sold variously as the Microbus, Transporter and Kombi, is a forward control van and minibus produced by Volkswagen beginning in 1950 on the mechanical underpinnings of the Beetle. Its distinctive split windshield front end and later bay window styling made it an icon of 1960s counterculture and it remained in production in various markets for decades.
