RMS Lusitania was a British ocean liner that entered service for the Cunard Line in 1907 and, alongside her sister ship Mauretania, held the Blue Riband for the fastest transatlantic crossing. She was sunk by a German U-boat torpedo off the coast of Ireland in May 1915 with heavy loss of life, an event that helped shift public opinion in the United States toward entering the First World War.
