The EMD 645 is a diesel engine family produced by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division beginning in 1965 as the successor to the 567 series, again named for each cylinder's displacement in cubic inches. It powered a wide range of EMD road and switching locomotives through the 1970s and 1980s before EMD introduced the further developed 710 series.
