This dimension groups a mode of transport with the other modes that share its basic technology, rail transport with other forms of guided land transport, for example. Wikipedia describes rail transport as "a mode of transport using wheeled vehicles running on tracks, which usually consist of two parallel steel rails," a shared mechanical family even when the specific railway differs. Browsing by mode family keeps technologically related modes together.
