Fiat 414

The Fiat 414 was a bus designed by the Italian firm Fiat Veicoli Industriali and marketed in bodies by Cansa, exclusively for ATAC of Rome, and by Scall and Caproni Vizzola from the earliest years of the 1960s, used mainly for urban service. It was smaller than the usual bus, in what would now be called the midibus category, meant for routes with complicated road layouts such as historic centres or with fewer passengers. Its engine of 4,678 cubic centimetres sat centrally under the floor in an isolated compartment, to improve sound insulation and raise passenger capacity, and the standard version held almost 70 places. It stayed in service with many Italian transport companies, among them twenty examples at ATAC of Rome.
