Renault SI

Buses and Road Mass Transit Vehicles

The Renault SI is a coach designed by Renault at the end of the 1920s. It was produced from 1928 to 1929. One example, bodied by Weymann, was entered in the Paris to Nice race and finished first equal in its category, including a run over 3 km at an average speed of 114.3 km/h; weighing 5.5 tonnes loaded, it showed petrol consumption of 30 litres per 100 km. The SI model can make fast road journeys at a commercial speed of 90 km/h. It was bought by the railway companies: the Paris-Orleans company used it for the Poitiers to Limoges run, the Etat administration for Caen to Rennes, and the Nord and the Paris-Lyon-Mediterranee companies ran it on a joint service Boulogne-Paris-Nice. It has a six-cylinder engine of 40 hp.
