The Mercedes-Benz O 400 is a series of passenger buses, both body-ready platforms and monocoque buses, designed and built in Germany, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico between 1991 and 2007. The Brazilian O 400 was built by Mercedes-Benz Brasil between 1994 and 2003, with the O 400 RSD also made in Argentina. It replaced the legendary O 371 and its successor is the O 500. At first the O 400 was identical to the O 371 mechanically, until a last generation with an experimental OM447LA engine, and its front and rear were mostly glass fibre instead of metal, as were the bumpers. The article lists European versions such as the O 404 coach and the O 405 city bus, an Argentine O 400 RSD with an OM-447LA diesel of 360 hp, and Brazilian O 400 R and RS coaches.
