Mercedes-Benz O 405 GTD

The Mercedes-Benz O 405 GTD is a dual-mode articulated bus from Daimler-Benz, based on the conventional O 405 G articulated bus. GTD stands for an articulated trolleybus with diesel drive, and the electrical equipment was supplied by AEG. It followed the O 305 GTD, of which only four were built. From 1986 to 1995 a total of 47 were produced, and twenty of them were fitted with guidance equipment for guided-busway operation, notably the eighteen cars at Essen, which also had extra doors on the left side to serve island platforms in the city tram tunnel. Later owners converted most of them to pure diesel buses. The planned low-floor successor, the O 405 GNTD, never went beyond a single prototype.
