Mercedes-Benz O 305 GTD

The Mercedes-Benz O 305 GTD was a dual-mode bus of Daimler-Benz, based on the conventional articulated bus O 305 G and the conventional trolleybus O 305 GT. The electrical equipment was supplied by AEG, and GTD stands for articulated trolleybus with diesel drive. Two of the four vehicles were also guided buses on a track. After a prototype built in 1979 and designated O 305 G D/E, four examples of this type were produced in 1983. The test vehicle from Rastatt went to Esslingen in 1986 and was taken into the regular fleet there in December that year as number 308, with its track guidance removed first. The Essen car 3701 was later converted and ran for some years as a pure diesel bus, also without track guidance. The type was followed by the O 405 GTD, built in 47 examples.
