Fiat 412

The Fiat 412 is a two-deck urban bus, unusual for Italy, made by the Italian maker Fiat Bus from 1961. It was the first time such a layout appeared in an urban bus; earlier, Lancia had built a two-deck version of its Omicron for long-distance transport. The vehicle was designed on an order from the Buenos Aires public transport company for 70 vehicles, developed in 1960 and marketed in 1961, and it became the first double-decker urban bus built in series in Italy. It had little commercial success because users hesitated to sit upstairs for fear of not having time to get off at the stop. ATAC of Rome counted 58 in its fleet, and they stayed in service until 1981. Unlike the Italian custom, the 412 received only the light-alloy Aerfer body. It used a Fiat V.I. 412H/61 engine of 11,548 cubic centimetres.
