Bristol VR

Buses and Road Mass Transit Vehicles

The Bristol VR is a double decker bus chassis built by Bristol Commercial Vehicles from 1966, its name short for Vertical Rear engined, describing the upright rear mounted engine that, like the rival Leyland Atlantean, allowed a low straight staircase at the front of the bus. For many years Bristol chassis were sold only to state owned bus operators in Britain, and the VR became the standard double decker of the National Bus Company's subsidiaries across England and Wales through the 1970s and into the 1980s.
