The AEC Regent III RT was the London Transport variant of the AEC Regent III, a double-decker bus produced jointly by AEC and London Transport. It was the standard red London bus of the 1950s and continued to outnumber the better-known AEC Routemaster through the 1960s. The prototype RT 1 was built in 1938 and entered service that July disguised as an older vehicle. London Transport received 4,674 post-war RT-class buses between 1947 and 1954, and the wider RT family, including the Leyland-chassis RTL and RTW, totalled 6,956. The last RT in service ran on route 62 on 7 April 1979, and the type became a screen favourite.
