The AEC K-type was a bus chassis built by the Associated Equipment Company from 1919 until 1926, mainly for the London General Omnibus Company. It ended the horse-drawn omnibus influence on layout seen in the earlier LGOC X-type and B-type by placing the driver beside the engine and using a wider, straight-sided body, which raised seating from 34 to 46 passengers. The first chassis was completed in August 1919 with a 30 hp 4.4-litre four-cylinder engine, and 1,132 were built in total. A single-deck version followed in 1925 and was the first London vehicle to use pneumatic tyres. Most were withdrawn by early 1931 and K424 survives at the London Transport Museum.
