The Renault PY is a bus chassis built by Renault and SCEMIA. At the end of the 1920s Renault, in partnership with SCEMIA, planned a new type of lowered bus chassis in line with developments of the time, to maximise accessibility, comfort, stability and safety by lowering the centre of gravity. The project led to two chassis, the Renault PN and PY, which share most of their components but differ in layout: the PN has a short-bonnet cab design, intended to carry a lowered platform at the rear, with the driving position above the engine, while the PY has a long-bonnet design with the driving position after the front axle and no rear platform. In 1929 the Paris-region transport company STCRP bought 23 PY chassis and bodied them for one-man service with a single door after the front axle; the bodied vehicle is 7.38 metres long and 2.38 metres wide, and these vehicles were withdrawn in 1939. The PN and PY share a Renault in-line four-cylinder side-valve petrol engine of 5.03 litres, from 30 hp at 1,000 rpm to 45 hp (33 kW) at 1,500 rpm.
