Ford B series

Buses and Road Mass Transit Vehicles

The Ford B series was a bus chassis that Ford Motor Company made from 1948 to 1998. It was a variant of the medium-duty F-Series, introduced in 1948 with the first F-Series trucks as a cowled-chassis version of the F-5 and F-6, and the B stood for bus. Unlike an F-Series chassis-cab, it was a bare chassis behind the firewall, with all other bodywork supplied by a second-stage maker, and it was adopted mainly for yellow school buses as well as specialty uses. Sold in the United States and Canada and exported worldwide, it followed the medium-duty F-Series through six generations, gained diesel engines as an option in 1968 and from 1980 offered a 6.1-litre gasoline V8 beside Caterpillar and Detroit Diesel diesel V8s. Ford ended cowled-chassis production after 1998, following the sale of its heavy-truck line to Freightliner, and its role was taken by Freightliner and Blue Bird products.
