Bristol 4 ton

Buses and Road Mass Transit Vehicles

The Bristol 4 Ton was a chassis built by the Bristol Tramways and Carriage Company and sold for both passenger and goods work. It grew out of the W type, a prototype of 1915, which Grace's Guide says was developed in 1920 into the 4-tonner. The Bristol CV Buses website records production between 1915 and 1931 and a total of 650 built, with single deck and double deck bus bodies, coach bodies and commercial bodies for lorries, tankers and vans. Delivery lists show Bristol Tramways taking 305, British Petroleum 74 and Devon Motor Services 35. Grace's Guide records that production of the W ceased in 1931, as the lettered chassis of the late 1920s took over the range.
