The BharatBenz 1017 is a front engine bus chassis built by Daimler India Commercial Vehicles at its Oragadam plant near Chennai. It carries a 125 kilowatt 4D34i engine, and the front engine BharatBenz buses are based on the Mitsubishi Fuso Canter platform. Deliveries of the first made-in-India buses began in November 2015, and the 1017 is offered as a bare bus chassis and as school and staff buses with Wrightbus bodywork, with tourist variants also available for the front engine range. The company opened its dedicated bus plant in Oragadam in May 2015 and builds Wrightbus bodies there through a tie-up with the Irish firm. Larger BharatBenz bus chassis such as the 1624 and 1924 use a 180 kilowatt OM926 engine.
