The Bedford Y series was a family of single-decker bus and coach chassis that Bedford built from 1970 until 1986, when the company stopped making buses and trucks. It began with the ten metre YRQ, announced in September 1970 as a replacement for the VAM with the engine mounted centrally under the floor, and grew to include an eleven metre YRT in 1972 to replace the twin-steer VAL. More powerful engines arrived in 1975 with the YLQ and YMT, a turbocharged YNT followed in 1980, and the twelve metre YNV Venturer with air suspension was the last development in 1984. Chassis came in lengths of 8, 10, 11 and 12 metres and were mostly bodied by Duple and Plaxton.
