A tricycle is a human-powered road vehicle with three wheels, typically two at the rear or front for stability and one for steering, propelled by pedals in the same manner as a bicycle. Adult tricycles were widely used for personal transport in the nineteenth century, particularly before the development of the modern safety bicycle made two-wheeled riding practical and popular for a broad range of riders. Tricycles remain in common use today in smaller form as childrens first pedal vehicles, and in larger cargo and adult forms where their inherent stability is valued for deliveries or for riders who cannot easily balance a two-wheeled bicycle.
