A kick scooter is a human-powered vehicle consisting of a narrow standing platform mounted on two or more wheels with a steering column and handlebars at the front, propelled by the rider pushing one foot repeatedly against the ground. Early kick scooters were popular as childrens toys and informal transport in the early twentieth century, often improvised from wooden crates and roller-skate wheels, and the vehicle later returned to mass popularity as a folding aluminum commuter product in the late 1990s and 2000s. The kick scooter is the direct human-powered ancestor of the electric scooter, which added a motor to the same basic standing-platform layout.
