Cargo Bike

The cargo bike is a bicycle built specifically to carry substantial loads of goods or passengers rather than primarily to carry the rider quickly, typically achieved through an extended or reinforced frame, a front or rear cargo platform or box, and lower gearing suited to riding under load. Common configurations include the long-tail bike, with an extended rear rack, and the front-loading cargo tricycle or bakfiets style with a load box mounted ahead of the rider, both of which have long been used by tradespeople, delivery services, and, especially in cities such as Amsterdam and Copenhagen, families transporting children and shopping. The type has seen a substantial revival in the twenty-first century as cities have promoted cycling as an alternative to car and van trips for last-mile delivery and household transport.
