Beverley Bass

Beverley Bass, born on 27 March 1952, is an American aircraft pilot who became the first female captain of an American Airlines commercial plane. American Airlines hired her in 1976 as their third female pilot. In 1986 she became the airline's first female captain and later that year she captained the first all-female crew at American Airlines, flying from Washington, D.C. to Dallas, Texas. With the pilot Stephanie Wallach she founded the International Society of Women Airline Pilots, which began as a group of women aviators and later changed into a program providing career support and mentorship to aspiring pilots.
