Juan Trippe

An American airline entrepreneur who founded the Aviation Corporation of the Americas, which became Pan American Airways, and led it from its first flight, Key West to Havana in 1927, into the twentieth century's leading international airline. He drove Pan Am's adoption of successive generations of aircraft, championed lower fare tourist class travel, and, seeking an aircraft far larger than the Boeing 707, asked Boeing to build what became the Boeing 747, for which Pan Am was the launch customer.
