Elwood Haynes

Elwood Haynes lived from 14 October 1857 to 13 April 1925 and was an American inventor, metallurgist, automotive pioneer, entrepreneur and industrialist. The source lead says he successfully road tested his first car, the Pioneer, on 4 July 1894, and in 1896 formed a partnership with Elmer and Edgar Apperson to start Haynes-Apperson, which it describes as the first company in the United States to produce automobiles profitably. He renamed it Haynes Automobile Company in 1905. He also invented the alloy stellite, oversaw construction of the first long-distance natural gas pipeline in the United States, ran for the US Senate as a prohibition candidate in 1916, and after his death his Kokomo mansion became the Elwood Haynes Museum.
