Donald Healey

Donald Mitchell Healey CBE, born on 3 July 1898 and died on 13 January 1988, was a noted English car designer, rally driver and speed record holder. Born in Perranporth, Cornwall, he served as a pilot in the Royal Flying Corps in the First World War, then opened a garage in Perranporth in 1920 and used it to prepare cars for competition. He won the Monte Carlo Rally in 1931 driving an Invicta, and went on to become technical director of the Triumph Motor Company, responsible for the design of all Triumph cars, including the Triumph Dolomite 8 straight-eight sports car. After the Second World War he set out to begin making his own cars.
