The EMD SD70ACe is a diesel-electric freight locomotive that Electro-Motive Diesel introduced in 2004, built around a single large diesel engine driving alternating-current traction motors for improved adhesion and fuel efficiency over earlier direct-current designs. Widely purchased by major North American freight railroads such as Union Pacific and BNSF, it became one of the standard heavy-haul road locomotives of the early twenty-first century.
